Packed my bags last night, pre-flight...
Tomorrow we leave for the UK. Today will be spent making sure everything at work is covered. We packed our bags last night, so with luck, we can relax tonight and get ready for the great time zone change boogie. The most stressful part of packing for us is making sure our bags are under the 50 lb weight limit. On our way to GaFilk, we had one bag that was 4 lbs over, and so in addition to all the other drama associated with boarding that flight, I had to redistribute our stuff. Surprisingly, the people in line behind us didn't seem terribly amused. Go figure. The main source of weight is carrying 4 different CD titles. Anyway, in hopes of averting a repeat of that experience, I bought a digital bathroom scale on my way home last night. Each of the three suitcases weighed in at a svelte 46 lbs, fully packed. If we manage to sell at least a few CDs, there'll even be room to bring back a few souvenirs :-).

We're hoping Amanda is ok on the flight. I know she won't be scared, but she's a very energetic and talkative 5 year old, and I'm not sure how she'll do on an 11 hour flight. We're taking her Leapster game system, and we've loaded up an iPod with kids movies. Should be interesting.

Yay! On another subject, I've been really touched by the way you've jumped in to help Greg's family.

Woohoo, have a good flight and a great trip! I'm so jealous!! (of you going to the UK con and of the UK con people being able to see you perform -- yes, I know I just saw you & Maya perform at GAfilk but I can never get enough Bohnhoff. :-))

With your love of travel, I think you meant to say "I can never get enough Bahnhoff". :-)

:-D

By the way, IF you remember (no pressure if you don't), I'd appreciate you passing on a message to Mich and/or Marilisa if you happen to chat with them. They each promised me that they'd be moving to Toronto ages ago (they may not remember but I'm always happy to remind them) and I've found THE PERFECT APARTMENTS in my neighbourhood, near a chocolate shop even, and I'm excited about their arrival!

Yay! Both of you can tell them independently! That will make the rumour even more substantial, woohoo!

I can do that, but since you and Jeff are moving to the SF Bay Area, I really don't see what good Mich and Marilisa moving to Toronto will do you ;-)

I'm fairly sure the net movement is still towards Britain. Even if some miss and land in continental Europe. {;c)

You know, I've always loved the term "SF Bay". I imagine it a bit like Silicon Valley but for SF fans (and with water) *g*...

I think it was no accident that Starfleet HQ was (or is that "will be") here ;-)

Have a great time in the UK! Wish I could be there to cheer you on.

Have a good flight & keep healthy, hopefully Maya won't still be sounding like a frog by the time you get to England.

If you need sometime, we can take Amanda for a weekend or something. Mindy loves playing with her.

I understand your concern about Amanda and the 11 hour flight. She will probably be just fine, but a parent always needs to think of the worst case scenario and then plan for it, right? I have been worrying about Patrick and our 13 hour flight as well. ADD and big flying tin cans are not all that compatible. Funny, up until just a month ago, I was worried about my pain levels and how I was going to manage the flight. I'm historically not such a great traveler and the arthritis has magnified that by a factor of four. But my somewhat astonishing weight loss compounded by the recent drastic decrease in pain and stiffness overall, has made me a lot more hopeful and excited.

Jim Robinson will be stopping by Baycon to spend some time with us, and we thought that it would be a good time for the herd to gather for at least one meal, you know, our usual table for 20? Moooooo.

Enjoy the UK, and if you see Zander and or Tallis, please give them both a hug from me. Ancient Sky and Mizpah are still two of my favorite songs ever, right up there with Manhattan Sleeps. I am not envious in the least because envy is totally beneath me. Yeah, just green here. We will see you soon and trade stories of the UK and Middle Earth.

Safe travels to all!
